"At some point along the way women were taught to use passive language when we speak instead of assertive language. We often don't even realize how passive the language we actually use is. We apologize more than we should and tend to defend and explain ourselves. What we forget is... we don't have to. WE DONT HAVE TO EXPLAIN OURSELVES. This series of clothing is the start of my artistic exploration of assertive speech when it comes to women and self-empowerment. "

The lettering is printed using stencil and inking techniques and the flower is carefully hand-painted to represent this push and pull between traditional ideas of femininity and the assertiveness many women crave.
